Definition of Touch Screen and Microphone

Touch Screen:

First described by E.A. Johnson in his work on capacitive touchscreen in 1967. A touch screen basically includes 1) Touch Screen Sensor, 2) Controller, 3) Software Driver.Touch Panel displays and pads are now being offered as alternatives to keyboard. Here the input can be given through the computer screen, that accepts the input through monitor, users touch electronic buttons displayed on the screen or they may use light pen. The touch sensor generally has an electrical current or signal going through it and touching the screen causes a voltage or signal changes. A touch screen sensor is a clear glass panel with a touch responsive surface which is placed over a display screen.


  • In 1965, the first "touch screen" was developed by E.A. Johnson.
  • In 1971, the first "transparent touch screen" was developed by Dr. Sam Hurst.
  • The University of Kentucky Research Foundation named it as "Elo-graph".

Microphone:

Microphone is an input device, which takes voice as input, The voice communication is more error-prone that information through keyboard. There are two types of microphones available (as show in given figure).


  1. Desktop Microphone.
  2. Hand held Microphone.
